Foundation hosts poster presentations prior to Day 1 of Data Summit

The DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) Foundation’s Information & Quality Services Center (IQSC) hosted a pre-event ceremony prior to its 7th Annual Data Summit yesterday evening at Scottish Rite for Children in Dallas. The reception honored 20 poster abstract submissions detailing data projects in North Texas healthcare. More than 50 people attended the reception. The event kicked off the virtual two-day Data Summit which will conclude tomorrow.

The posters were displayed in Scottish Rite’s Reverchon Room, with judging conducted by Aaron Bujnowski of Alvarez and Marsal; Will Grey of Resultant; Susan Partridge of Parkland Health, Stephanie McGinn of Children’s Health; and Stephen Love of DFWHC.

The winning posters were:

• First place: Jimmy Shah, Methodist Dallas Medical Center, “ALBI Score and Systemic Immune Inflammation Indexes used as Pretreatment Predictors of Outcomes after Whipple Procedure (Pancreaticoduodenectomy) in Patients with Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma Submitted to Robotic and Open Procedures: A Retrospective Logistic Regression Analysis”

• Second place: Nicole Beckley, UT Southwestern Medical Center, “Area Deprivation is Associated with Postpartum Readmission Facility Location and Timing”

• Third place (tie): Susan K. Lee, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, “Lifesaving Literacy: Educating providers and patients to reduce maternal mortality”

• Third place (tie): Karunakara Dirisala, UT Southwestern Medical Center, “Impact of Smoking Cessation Interventions on Internal Medicine Clinics at a Large Academic Medical Centers”

• Third place (tie): Rebecca Moore, Medical City Dallas, “Impact of Transfusion Threshold Reduction for Bone Marrow Transplant Patients”

• Honorable Mention: Albert Karam, Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation, “Predicting Workplace Violence in the Hospital”

• Honorable Mention: Kari Teigen, JPS Health Network, “A novel machine learning based model for point-of-care prediction of suicide risk for patients in safety-net healthcare systems.”

Themed “The Future of AI-Based Healthcare Analytics,” today’s IQSC Data Summit was attended by more than 100 registrants. Presentations included:

• “Scaling Best Practices to Advance the Safe, Effective and Equitable Use of AI in Healthcare,” with Dr. Mark Sendak, Clinical Data Scientist, Duke University; Jee Young Kim, PhD, Qualitative Research Scientist, Duke University; and Alifia Hasan, MBA, Innovation Portfolio Manager, Duke University

• “Panel Presentation on AI,” with Steve Miff, PhD, President/CEO, Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation, Danny Tobey, Partner, Chair, AI and Data Analytics, DLA Piper; David Videl, Vice Chair, Center for Digital Health; Alexandra Valladares, Commissioner, Durham Public Schools; and Deb Raji, Fellow, Mozilla
