Day one of the DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) Foundation’s 11th Annual Patient Safety Summit kicked off today at the Arlington Convention Center with more than 200 attendees participating.

This year’s theme is “Home Run for Safety,” with Sorrel King, the creator of the Josie King Foundation, opening the program to discuss “Creating a Culture of Patient Safety Together.”

An additional speaker today was Lieutenant General Paul Kendall Carlton Jr., 17th Surgeon General of the US Air Force. His session was titled “Combat Casualty Care and Lessons Learned.”

The Patient Safety Summit serves as an opportunity for hospital employees to discuss past errors and to make strategic plans to keep them from happening again. Poster abstracts from participating hospitals will be displayed throughout the event.

Sessions will continue today until 5:00 p.m. Day two continues tomorrow from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
