TQI founding member receives D CEO Healthcare award

The DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) Foundation was thrilled to learn Dr. Michael Mack received the 2017 D CEO Excellence in Healthcare Award in the category of Achievement in Medical Research announced earlier this month.

Dr. Mack, a medical director of cardiothoracic surgery at Baylor Scott & White Health, was the founding member of the Foundation’s Texas Quality Initiative (TQI).

The TQI was created in 2012 with a mission to improve the quality and safety for cardiovascular surgery patients by merging clinical data with administrative data to provide transparency and improved accuracy for participating hospitals. The group is led by cardiothoracic surgeons affiliated with Baylor Scott & White Health, Medical City Healthcare, Methodist Health System, Texas Health Resources and UT Southwestern and administered through the DFWHC Foundation.

Dr. Mack was honored for his work on transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), a new procedure that replaces problematic aortic valves by threading artificial valves from the leg artery to the heart. Under his leadership, Baylor Scott & White conducted the first TAVR in Texas a decade ago. Today, the procedure is expected to become the gold standard for heart valve disease care.

The DFWHC Foundation would like to congratulate Dr. Mack on his award and a lifetime of improving the quality of life in North Texas.
