One week until “HACKED Hospital Data” – event expected to sellout

One week until the DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) and Hall Render complimentary event “HACKED: The case of a hospital’s data held HOSTAGE” on Thursday, March 29 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Meadows Conference Center in Dallas. This event is expected to sell out, so please register soon.

Mark Swearingen, Hall Render attorney who oversaw the case of a recent U.S. hospital where hackers demanded $55,000 in bitcoin payment or they would delete more than 1,000 encrypted files, will serve as keynote speaker.

Mark is an expert in health information privacy and security, including HIPAA and HITECH compliance. He regularly provides counsel on matters such as: HIPAA compliance investigations; the disclosure of health information; the creation of security policies; data breach response; and HIPAA audits.

His timely seminar will detail how overseas hackers used vendor credentials to deploy ransomware and lock down a hospital’s system. The attack hit just before a holiday weekend as the hospital was trying to manage a busy ER filled with flu patients. Swearingen was soon called to assist.

You can register for the event here.
