North Texas Overdose Awareness Day set for Aug. 31
The annual North Texas Overdose Awareness Day has been set for Thursday, August 31 at 6:30 p.m. on the lawn in front of the Denton County Courthouse on the square.
The purpose of the event is to create community awareness on the opioid epidemic while providing resources for individuals and families struggling with addiction. Speakers will also remember those who lost their lives to drug overdose while reducing the stigma of addiction.
International Overdose Awareness Day was initiated in 2001 by The Salvation Army in Melbourne, Australia. Since then, community members, government and non-government organizations have held hundreds of events each year to raise awareness and commemorate those who have been lost to drug overdose.
The event is free to the public and will include resource tables, food, music and memorials.
