National Prescription Drug Take Back Day set for Oct. 27

Mark your calendars as the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) National Prescription Drug Take Back Day has been set for Saturday, October 27 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. “Don’t be the dealer, keep them safe, clean them out and take them back,” so goes the slogan promoting a crucial public safety and public health issue across the U.S.

According to the 2016 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.2 million Americans misuse controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet.

The DEA’s Take Back Day provides an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths. So, round up the old drugs and find a drop-off location near you.
