More than 800 attendees participate in Foundation’s Patient Safety Summit

The fourth and final session of the DFW Hospital Council Foundation’s 18th Annual Patient Safety Summit wrapped up last Thursday. More than 800 attendees participated in the sessions on consecutive Thursdays, September 4, 11, 18 and 25.
Themed “Mastering Patient Safety,” the Summit opened with Keynote Speaker Urs Koenig, the bestselling author of “Radical Humility.” A former United Nations military peacekeeper commander, his presentation focused on a human-centered approach to leadership in today’s world.

- • Justin McGlothin, President of Higher Ed Media, LLC, with the presentation “Unlocking Gentelligence”
• Richard Curtis, CEO of CIHQ, discussing “New COPs for Discharge Planning and Emergency Services.”
• “Texas Legislative Update” from Jack Frazee of the Texas Nurses Association
• Ann Hulzing, a Patient Safety Specialist at The Joint Commission, discussing “Top Sentinel Event Reports”
• “Focus on Culture CMS PSSM Requirements” with Alex Christgen of the Center for Patient Safety and Dr. Shelly Pierce of Southern Illinois Healthcare
• Jackson Kerchis, a founder of Happiness Means Business, discussing “4S Model of Change Management.”
“We were thrilled by the attendance this year,” said Patti Taylor, director of quality and patient services at the DFWHC Foundation and coordinator of the event. “To create a true culture of patient safety, we need to engage the healthcare employees of North Texas. As the Patient Safety Summit displayed, everyone can play a role in safety. We would like to thank the speakers and participants for allowing us to host this event.”
There were 7.5 hours of continuing education credits available to attendees.
