“Attendance keeps growing every year for the Summer Institute,” said Sally Williams, director of the DFWHC Foundation Workforce Center. “This is a great opportunity for North Texas nurses to come together, network and learn strategies for the workplace. In addition, this event always reminds us of the importance of the nursing profession and how crucial they are to the daily care of patients. We hope attendees will leave this conference with improved skills in management and working with new employees.”

The morning session included hiring strategies for managers and what to look for in new graduates. The afternoon session will detail successful transition programs with a focus on hospital residencies, concluding with a panel of residency program graduates.

Speakers included Dr. Tony Paterniti and Tina Bowers of Methodist Health System; Dr. Rebecca Personett, Dr. Janeth Stiller and Dr. Juanita Fling of Brookhaven College; Paul Jentz of Baylor Scott & White Health; Deana Carter of Denton Regional Medical Center; Jari Ames and Carin Adams of JPS Health Network; Carrie Urista of Methodist Dallas Medical Center; Dr. Ann Smith and Erin Schultz of Cook Children’s Health Care System; Sahar Seyedkalal of Parkland Heath and Hospital System; Lourie Travis of Texas Health Resources; and Tricia Scott of HCA North Texas Division.

Prior to the program, a one-hour grant writing seminar was hosted by Dr. Crystee Cooper of the DFWHC Foundation.
