Diabetes Research

A question came up during a recent meeting involving the need for information on the characteristics of patients with diabetes. What information would community organizations want to know to help them with programs to reduce incidence and complications of diabetes? The question remains unanswered.

The Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council Foundation has received a grant from sanofi-aventis to research circumstances and characteristics of people with diabetes. Researchers will map environmental (locations of clinics and pharmacies) and demographic (gender and age) information to have a visual representation of the location of those with diabetes. How could this help the community?

If researchers could determine factors influencing hospital admissions or visits to the emergency room, a strategy could be developed to help residents stay healthy. The quality of life for people with controlled diabetes is as good as a healthy person’s. Such strategies could ultimately benefit patients financially and physically.

Please follow my blog and I will keep you up to date on the progress of the study. If you would like to be involved or know someone who wants to help their community, feel free to call or email.
