Modern Healthcare Magazine

The Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council (DFWHC) Foundation was spotlighted in the July 25 issue of Modern Healthcare magazine. The special edition, celebrating the 35th anniversary of the national publication, detailed market profiles across the country. Page 10 was devoted to Dallas-Fort Worth with the story “Cutting Readmissions: Index allows hospitals to track high-risk patients.” Penned by Paul Barr, the article profiled the DFWHC Foundation’s Regional Enterprise Master Patient Index (REMPI), including quotes from Steve Love, DFWHC president and CEO; Dr. Ruben Amarasingham, director of the Center for Clinical Innovation at Parkland Health & Hospital System; and Dr. Amit Khera, director of the preventive cardiology program at UT Southwestern. As stated in the article, DFWHC Foundation’s REMPI includes 8.3 million inpatient visits, 15 million outpatient visits and has identified 6.8 million unique patients. Readmissions are becoming more important as the CMS and others look at ways to prevent them, including by changing hospital reimbursement depending on how many patients are being readmitted.
