Announcing a New Initiative
“Texas Quality Institute”

The Dallas-Fort Worth Hospital Council Foundation (DFWHC Foundation) has approved a new project to partner with cardiovascular surgeons and North Texas hospitals to share information about cardiovascular surgery in the region.

Titled the Texas Quality Institute (TQI), the initiative is led by Dr. Michael Mack, Dr. Baron Hamman and Dr. Todd Dewey.  Multiple hospitals systems are participating including Baylor Health Care System, HCA North Texas Division, Methodist Health System, Texas Health Resources.

The mission of TQI is to improve the quality and safety of care for cardiovascular surgery patients. We expect this initiative to merge risk-adjusted clinical data with administrative data and to provide long-term comparative, cost effectiveness and quality outcomes research.

Shared goals for TQI include:

  • 1. A desire to expand the scope of TQI
  • 2. The addition of other clinical databases such as the American College of Cardiology
  • 3. Inclusion of additional registry information
  • 4. Statewide participation
  • 5. Additional information to merge with Health Information Exchange clinical information
