The DFW Hospital Council Foundation hosted its “Fourth Annual Sepsis Conference” today at the Tarrant County College Trinity River Campus in Fort Worth. The event was a sellout, with more than 270 in attendance.
This year’s event was themed “Spot Sepsis Save a Life,” with speakers including:

• Dr. NikHil Bhayani, an Infectious Disease Specialist at DFW Infectious Diseases, PLLC, with the presentation “Spot the Cause: The Importance of Antimicrobial De-escalation in Sepsis”
The conference was hosted by the Sepsis Strike Force. Coordinated by Patti Taylor, director of quality and patient safety at the DFWHC Foundation, the group was formed in 2017 with the intention of providing evidence-based clinical guidelines, protocols and best practices regarding sepsis.
“We were thrilled by today’s participation,” said Taylor. “Each year this event attracts healthcare employees from across North Texas. Sepsis is a crucial and critical issue in hospitals because it is a leading cause of death and disability, and it carries an enormous financial burden for our hospitals and patients. This event is a way to create awareness and decrease the numbers in our hospitals.”
