Foundation sponsors the DFW Sepsis Challenge

The DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) Foundation announced today it would serve as a sponsor of the Dallas Fort Worth Sepsis Challenge, a community 5K run and walk on September 1 at 9:00 a.m. at Trinity Park in Fort Worth.

Hosted by the Sepsis Alliance, the event will officially kick off Sepsis Awareness Month throughout September. This is an inaugural event to raise awareness of sepsis as a medical emergency and to raise funds for the Sepsis Alliance.

“This is an important event and a great way to bring attention to this crucial patient safety issue,” said Patti Taylor, the director of quality and patient safety at the DFWHC Foundation. “Sepsis is the body’s life-threatening response to infection that can lead to tissue damage, organ failure and even death. In 2014, sepsis was named as the most expensive in-patient cost in American hospitals. We have been working for several years now at the DFWHC Foundation to raise awareness on this issue and to decrease local occurrences in North Texas. This 5K run and walk is a great opportunity to continue this cause.”
