A look back: Employee of the Year Luncheons #9 and #10

In celebration of the DFW Hospital Council (DFWHC) Foundation’s 20th Annual Employee of the Year Luncheon on April 27 at the Irving Convention Center, we are counting down with detail on previous events. For prior articles, see below.

The 9th Annual Employee of the Year Luncheon, themed “A Job Well Done,” was held May 24, 2005 at the new Gaylord Texan in Grapevine. Catherine Crier, the youngest elected judge in Texas history, host of Court-TV and the popular author of “The Case against Lawyers,” served as keynote speaker. Autographed copies of her book were presented to attendees.

Award recipients were Yolanda Gonzalez, radiographer at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital HEB; Michael Massoud, cardiac sonographer at HCA’s Medical Center of Plano; and Denise Rebel, respiratory therapist at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. Elizabeth Johnston, a nursing student at Texas Woman’s University, received the Rex McRae Scholarship.

The 10th Annual Luncheon was held May 17, 2006 at the Gaylord Texan. Joe Clark, the famous New Jersey high school principal and disciplinarian whose career was the basis for the 1989 film “Lean on Me,” served as keynote speaker.

Award recipients were Robert Christy, patient care technician at Tenet’s Lake Pointe Medical Center; Jim McClanahan, clinical ER coordinator at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital HEB; and Glenda Gooldy, administrative assistant at Baylor All Saints Medical Center. Getachew Yirga, an ADN student at El Centro College, received the Rex McRae Scholarship.

On Wednesday, April 27, the Employee of the Year Luncheon will honor more than 140 nominees and present 14 separate awards. The luncheon has evolved into a celebration for one of the most valuable resources in North Texas – great hospital employees. You can register for the event here.
